Therapeutic Massage

[column span=”6″]

Therapeutic Massage is a non-invasive, drug-free way to help relieve pain and reduce stress. Research shows that massage decreases muscle tension, increases circulation and induces a state of relaxation.

Benefits of Therapeutic Massage

  • Reduces stress and helps improve conditions aggravated by stress, such as insomnia and asthma
  • Provides relief from chronic back pain
  • Helps prevent injuries caused by muscle imbalances or strained muscles and ligaments
  • Helps heal injuries by breaking up scar tissue and increasing circulation to tendons and ligaments, which have poor or no vascular system
  • Reduces muscle tension and pain associated with tight, fatigued muscles
  • Releases restrictions in tight muscles, joints and fascia
  • Improves energy levels
  • Increases body awareness

What to expect during a massage session

You will be asked to fill out a client information form before your first session. We will discuss what your main concerns are (relaxation, chronic pain, injury, etc) and agree upon a treatment plan for the session. You may remain fully clothed or undress to your comfort level and you will be covered by a sheet and blanket during the session. I will be asking you for feedback about pressure to ensure the optimal level is maintained for you.

Massage Types

Swedish Massage

The most well known form of massage, Swedish massage uses kneading, muscle stripping and sweeping strokes to loosen and relax muscles, increase circulation, and flush toxins from the body.

Deep tissue massage is a muscle specific technique that unsticks the fibers of a muscle to release deeply held patterns of tension. Firm pressure and/or friction is used on contracted muscle or injured muscle, tendon, and ligaments to break up scar tissue and bring circulation to the affected area.

Myofascial Therapy

Oil-free deep tissue technique that uses slow, engaging strokes to release restricted fascia of the muscles. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds all the muscles and organs in the body. Tight and dehydrated muscles can stick to neighboring muscles and structures, causing pain. Myofascial therapy unwinds these restrictions to restore full function.

Pregnancy Massage

Focuses on the special needs of the mother to be. Relieves joint and muscle pains associated with supporting the added and redistributed weight of the baby. Promotes relaxation, which improves sleep and gastrointestinal processes (eases heartburn, constipation, gas).

Sports Massage

Alleviates muscular strain and tension from physical activity. Sports massage can help identify problem areas before they turn into injuries, speed recovery and healing time, and increase mobility. Allows the athlete to train and perform at a higher level.

Regeneration Massage

Combination of sports massage and manual lymph drainage that focuses on accelerating recovery from strenuous activity by removing waste products and reducing inflammation in the muscles and tissues.

Manual Lymph Drainage

Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a safe, effective technique that utilizes slow, rhythmic strokes to increase lymphatic flow.
